Warts (Verrucae) are known to recur after the conventional treatment modalities like cautery, cryotherapy and laser. The treatment is often frustrating, both to the patient and the physician. Acitretin, a receptor specific systemic retinoid is mainly used in the treatment of psoriasis and a few keratinizing disorders. It plays a major role in modifying the keratinizing process. We thought of utilizing this property for the treatment of recalcitrant warts over the face, palms, soles, periungual warts and genital warts. We added Zinc sulfate as immunomodulatory agent. Acitretin 1mg/Kg and Zinc Sulfate 200mg daily was prescribed for 2 months. Successful treatment of these conditions with complete clearance was observed at the end of 2 months, without any recurrence even after 1 year. Pre and post-treatment photographs were recorded. More number of controlled studies will support to establish this treatment regimen in the future.
