Body Contouring: Non-invasive fat reduction
Abstract

Over the next decade, non-invasive body contouring promises to be one of the largest cosmetic areas of interest.
Public awareness of obesity, one of the biggest threats for metabolic, cardiovascular and neoplastic diseases and the disadvantages of excess adipose tissue referring to beauty and attractiveness have made body-sculpting procedures more and more popular.
The improvement in shape and smoothness of the human physique is referred to as “body contouring.” The Increasing demand for non-invasive skin tightening and body contouring procedures has led to several technological innovations in lasers and energy-based devices.
Diet, exercise, and cosmetic surgery may effectively control obesity lead to dramatic weight loss and remove large amount of excess fat. In the other hand, cosmetic procedures are still necessary for reducing the volume of subcutaneous adipose tissue in selected, more focal areas. An emerging trend in the end is to evaluate whether combination therapies for skin
laxity/body contouring using energy-based devices can deliver superior clinical results and patient satisfaction.
Non-invasive body contouring is most frequently performed with devices that target subcutaneous adipose tissue. Each procedure has distinct mechanism for stimulating apoptosis or necrosis tissue by focused electrical or thermal energy. These devises including low-level laser therapy (LLLT), high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), cryolipolysis, and radiofrequency (RF) will be discussed in this chapter.
